Lito is among the few subject matter experts, thought-leaders, and practitioners in digital financial services with over 20 solid years of experience in the fields of banking, payments and telecommunications industries. He started his career as associate editor at the Economist Intelligence Unit before joining the Land Bank of the Philippines as one of the pioneer global banking officers that established the overseas remittance business in the Bank. His expertise in the payments space was further fortified as he was tapped by the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group as consultant focusing on mobile money transfers in Mongolia. He was then invited by Visa to be the lead in customer strategy and market activation on global mobile payments covering 35 markets in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
Just recently, he was named as the first and only Filipino to be included in the prestigious Top 100 Fintech Leaders in Asia. The list includes chief executives from Union Pay, Temasek Holdings, DBS, ICICI, Tencent and Alibaba, among others. He was also elected a member of the Asia Board of the London-based global trade body, the Mobile Ecosystem Forum.
He has successfully developed and deployed customer-centric, demand-driven and award-winning B2B2C and B2C platforms that have achieved commercial traction. His portfolio covers digital lending for both banked and unbanked segments leveraging on telco data algorithm, electronic M&E, digital disbursements, micro-savings, insurance technology, anti-fraud and card control security, among others. These initiatives were geared towards empowering the customers while engaging government in providing conducive regulatory environment through the enablement of financial and non-financial institutions partners to deliver delightful consumer experience.
These trailblazing financial innovations such as LANDBANK Mobile LoanSaver, touted as Asia’s first fully electronic end-to-end salary loan platform, Lendr marketplace, the UNDP mobile cash transfer, LockByMobile, and Charge2Phone merited close to 25 global and regional awards and recognitions. They were likewise featured in local and international publications. He has established strategic digital partnerships with financial and non-financial institutions including international humanitarian aid agencies.
He is also a development partner of the Philippines’ regulator, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in the promotion of its National Strategy for Financial Inclusion and the National Retail Payments System in promoting inclusive growth through digital technology.
